What Is IREAD?
The Indiana Reading Evaluation and Determination assessment (IREAD) is Indiana's statewide assessment designed to measure foundational reading skills aligned with Indiana Academic Standards through grade three.
IREAD requirements, participation policies, testing windows, retesting opportunities, and other policies are established by the Indiana Department of Education and may change over time. Families are encouraged to review the most current information provided by the Indiana Department of Education and contact NVCA with questions regarding how current requirements apply to their student.
Preparing Our Students for Success
At New Vision Christian Academy, we understand the importance of developing strong reading skills during a child's early educational years. Our goal is to help students strengthen foundational literacy skills, build reading confidence, and develop the skills necessary to comprehend and engage with increasingly complex texts.
Teachers work to support students through classroom instruction, reading practice, skill development, and additional academic support when appropriate. Families are encouraged to partner with teachers by promoting regular reading and literacy activities at home.
How Families Can Help
- Encourage students to read regularly at home.
- Read together and discuss what was read.
- Ask questions about characters, events, main ideas, and important details.
- Practice vocabulary and foundational reading skills.
- Maintain regular communication with the student's teacher.
- Encourage students to approach reading and assessments with confidence.
